He acts as a consultant and lecturer to share his knowledge of Passivhaus design and future proofing. He is a university lecturer and has spoken at various conferences including the International Passivhaus Conference.

How can we drastically reduce energy consumption and our carbon footprint?
Alan is an expert in the necessary elements of insulating and ventilating our homes to minimise energy use and maximise comfort.
Alan used the example of his personal experience with his own home to demonstrate some of the techniques available to massively increase insulation and decrease energy consumption. He placed a great deal of emphasis on two points:
- Ventilation must go hand in hand with insulation. A good quality ventilation system properly installed is essential to avoid damp and mould.
- The first step is to plan the project in stages. If you can only afford stage one, you will still have made a lot of difference and you won’t have closed the door on the possibility of doing more later.
