Climate conversations can be difficult, both with people we’re close to and with those we know less well.
Will we say the wrong thing?
Do we know enough about the science?
But talking helps
The Speaker: Linda Aspey
Linda is an executive coach, facilitator, and psychotherapeutic counsellor, specialising in climate psychology.
She is Director of Psychology at the National Emergency Briefing.
She is also an active trustee of the Climate Psychology Alliance, co- ordinating Climate Café Listening Circle facilitator training and support, and delivering CPA talks and workshops. She also facilitates People’s and Citizen’s Assemblies.

The Talk
Linda will speak about:
- How climate psychology helps to understand why these conversations are can be so hard, and what can help
- The perfectly normal, unconscious psychological defensive processes that we use to manage difficult feelings
- How recognising these normal responses can help us to open up conversations in a way that facts and arguments alone rarely do.
- Ways of staying with difficult feelings without being overwhelmed by them, and of finding a more grounded, durable kind of active hope.
You’ll leave with practical approaches for talking about climate change with friends, family and colleagues, and a clearer understanding of your own responses when the subject comes up.
