Re-use and Recycle

The world of charity shops

February 2025

What can you take to a charity shop? Clothes, books and toys for sure… but furniture, mobile phones and electrical goods?

After a brief introduction to the South Bucks Hospice and the work it does, our speakers, Richard and Pradeep, shared information about the challenges facing high street charity shops and how they work hard to keep our stuff out of landfill. They provided a list of what they cannot take and helped us to understand what they would love us to donate, how we should give it and how giving helps. They fielded lots of questions, and store manager Sharon told some stories about the extraordinary range of items they receive.
