What do you associate Danone with? A brand of yogurt?
Yes, but which of the following facts are also true of Danone? Three are true and one is false.
- Other brands it is behind include Evian, Activia and Volvic
- It used more than 750,000 tonnes of plastic in 2021. More than it had used the previous year
- It comes consistently second after CocaCola in the table of top plastic polluters worldwide in the Brand Audit Report produced by breakfreefromplastic.org
- The company’s products are available in more than 120 countries
There is no doubt that Danone and its associated brands are responsible for a huge amount of plastic pollution and they are not doing enough about it. As a large French company, they are obliged by a “Duty of vigilance” law to publish an annual vigilance plan including mitigation and prevention measures adapted to the environmental risks of their activities. They are still using more plastic year on year and have postponed their targets dates to reduce it.
